New Resources Launched for Secondary Schools
Supporting Faith, Love and RSE in Schools
A new school year began with the launch of two significant resources designed to support post-primary students in engaging with faith, relationships and questions of life and love.
A two-day event, held in Mullingar, marked a new phase for Religious Education (RE) and Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) across the island of Ireland. The event saw the launch of a new Curriculum Framework for Senior Religious Education, alongside the Living Love Senior Programme, a new resource for teaching RSE in senior post-primary classrooms.
Both programmes were commissioned by the Irish Bishops’ Conference and developed over an extensive period, with consultation involving teachers from across the country.
The new RE framework provides a more structured approach to Religious Education in the senior years of post-primary education. It aims to create a space for faith formation at a significant stage in students’ lives, as they explore questions of meaning and purpose, enter adulthood and prepare to take their first steps into the wider world.
The Living Love Senior Programme responds to the challenges educators face in delivering RSE in an increasingly diverse environment. The programme seeks to support teachers in addressing relationships, sexuality and personal development while respecting diverse beliefs, life choices and sexual identities and remaining faithful to the Catholic ethos of the school.
The event brought together patrons, representatives of Trust Bodies and post-primary Diocesan Advisors, who play an important role in supporting Catholic schools in delivering education rooted in Catholic ethos.
