World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly 2025

The first Message of Pope Leo XIV for the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, whose fifth edition will be celebrated on Sunday, 27 July 2025, was published recently. The theme of the Message is “Blessed are those who have not lost hope (Sir 14:2)” and fits into the context of the Jubilee of Hope 2025.

In the Message, the Holy Father invites us to recognise the elderly not only as recipients of pastoral care, but as witnesses of hope who are active protagonists in the life of the Church.

Pope Francis celebrated the first World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly in 2021 and decreed that it be observed each year on the Sunday closest to the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, Jesus’ grandparents.
