Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes

The first Meath Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes was led by Bishop John Kyne in 1948, making it the first from any Irish diocese and laying the groundwork for an annual tradition that has continued for decades. The pilgrimage serves as a significant event for the diocese, bringing together people from across the region to experience a sense of grace, joy, and healing at the famous Marian Shrine, with the support of dedicated volunteers and the generosity of many people.

A core purpose of the pilgrimage has always been to provide an opportunity for people with illnesses and disabilities to travel to Lourdes with the help of volunteers. The pilgrimage offers a chance for spiritual renewal and a gathering of the faithful from all parts of the diocese. For many, the journey provides a profound experience of God's healing presence, uplifting hearts and providing blessings.
The continued success of the pilgrimage relies heavily on the generosity and dedication of countless volunteers and supporters from the diocese.

A three-year journey with Mary.
The pastoral themes for all pilgrimages to Lourdes over the next three years have been announced by the Sanctuary of Lourdes.
The Sanctuary of Lourdes is inviting us on a spiritual pilgrimage, a journey to the heart of the Virgin Mary’s story. We’ll go step by step, guided by the Gospel of Luke. Our journey, our hope.
Lourdes 2026 - 2028
2026 : the Annunciation
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you” (Lk. 1:28)
This is the year of the welcome, of listening and of the ‘yes’ that changed everything.

2027 : the Visitation
“In those days Mary set out and went with haste…” (Lk. 1 :39)
This is the year of service, of joyful charity and of reaching out to others.

2028 : the Magnificat
“His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.” (Lk. 1:50)
This is the year of praise, of gratitude and of singing in acknowledgement of God’s wonders.
