Diocese Celebrates the Rite of Election 2025

'Seeking God's will'

Diocese Celebrates the Rite of Election 2025

Bishop Tom recently celebrated the 'Rite of Election' in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar. During the ceremony, candidates from Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne, Longwood, Mornington, and Mullingar affirmed their desire to enter fully into the life of the Catholic Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

During the ceremony, their sponsors testified they were sufficiently prepared to be enrolled among the elect for the celebration of Easter, and the candidates affirmed their desire to enter fully into the life of the Church through the sacraments.

As 'Elect', they will intensify their catechetical instruction during the remaining weeks of the Lenten season in preparation for the Easter Vigil. They will be presented with the 'Creed', the defining statement of belief in the Trinity - the divinty of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. In addition, they will receive a copy of the Lord's Prayer - a model of prayer taught by Jesus to his disciples, which focuses on worshipping God, seeking His will, asking for daily needs, and requesting forgiveness.

Parishes across the Diocese of Meath are also encourage to commend to their prayers those who are preparing to be received into full communion with the Church on the Feast of Pentecost through the celebration of Confirmation and Eucharist.

Bishop Tom expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, the candidates' families, their catechists, and those involved with their instruction and formation. May they find strength in God's grace and the support of their community's prayers and example.
