‘The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into the harvest. (Mt. 9:37-38)

Diocese Celebrates Ordination to the Priesthood

The Diocese of Meath celebrates the Ordination of Deacon Barry White to the priesthood on Sunday next 17 July at 3pm in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar. Bishop Thomas Deenihan, will be joined by Bishop Emeritus, Michael Smith and the priests, religious and people of the Diocese. Barry will celebrate his First Mass of Thanksgiving in the Church of St Louis and St Mary, Rathkenny at 7pm on Monday, 18 July.

Barry completed his secondary school education in St. Patrick’s Classical School, Navan, before commencing Bachelor of Arts studies in Philosophy and History in NUI, Maynooth. He commenced his philosophical and theological studies in the Pontifical University, St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth. While continuing his formation, Barry completed a Masters in Education in Trinity College in 2017 and a BA in English in Dublin City University before returning to St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth to complete his formation for priesthood.

We thank the Lord for this grace-filled moment for Barry, his parents Maree and Paddy, his sister Niamh, his native parish of Rathkenny, and the Diocese of Meath. We wish him every blessing as he begins his ministry of service as a priest in the Diocese.

‘Almighty Father, grant to this servant of yours the dignity of the priesthood. Renew within him the Spirit of holiness. As a co-worker with the order of bishops may he be faithful to the ministry that he receives from you, Lord God, and be to others a model of right conduct. May he be faithful in working with the order of bishops, so that the Gospel may reach the ends of the earth, and the family of nations, made one in Christ, may become God’s one, holy people.’
(Extract from the Prayer of Consecration – The Rite of Ordination to the Priesthood)
