Bishop Smith Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

We congratulate Bishop Michael Smith who celebrates the 60th Anniversary of his priestly Ordination on Thursday next, 9th March.

A native of Oldcastle in County Meath, Bishop Michael Smith was born in 1940. Following education at St Finian’s College, Mullingar and the Pontifical Irish College, Rome, he was ordained a priest on 9th March1963 in the Basilica of St. John Lateran by Cardinal Traglia, Cardinal-Bishop of Albano. He was subsequently ordained an auxiliary Bishop of Meath in 1984 and co-adjutor Bishop of Meath on 10th October 1988. Bishop Smith retired in 2018.

We give thanks for his prayerful witness, and his unwavering fidelity and service to the Church.

May God continue to bless him with good health, a peaceful heart, and a cheerful spirit.
