Garda vetting update for School Principals

Click here for the vetting invitation form. Where possible, please type the information onto the form and print it off (rather than handwriting) before sending it to Bishop's House, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

Any forms that do not include a date of birth and email address will be returned to the applicant. If the applicant does not have an email address, the applicant should ask the Principal for permission to cite the parish or school email address.

The applicant should post only the application form to the Diocesan Office. The identity documents (copy of passport and utility bill) are shown only to the Chair of the Board of Management or Principal; due to data protection laws, these documents should not be sent to the Diocesan Office.  The applicant should not send the details of previous addresses to the Diocesan Office; these details are only cited online for the attention of the Garda Vetting Bureau. The applicant should also be informed, as indicated above, that the application will expire after 30 days so it must be completed promptly.

The practice of sending disclosures directly to the applicants (rather than to the schools) at the end of the vetting process will continue.  Applicants should be asked to bring the disclosure immediately to the Principal.  This is the most certain way of knowing that the vetting process is completed.

It has been decided that, for a trail period, all applicants will be registered as “vetted for the Diocese of Meath” rather than for an individual parish or school. In other words, if an applicant is vetted for one parish, school or pilgrimage activity in the Diocese of Meath, this vetting will suffice for service in any other parish, school or pilgrimage activity, provided it is within the Diocese of Meath.    This will avoid an individual having to complete multiple applications for service in the Diocese of Meath.  It will be clearly noted on the disclosure that the applicant has been vetted by the Diocese of Meath.

A team of primary school catechists visit every primary school during the school term to gauge and encourage teachers in transmitting the Primary School Catechetics Programme.
