Meath pilgrims are getting ready for World Youth Day

Bishop Michael Smith will lead a group of 55 young people from the Diocese of Meath to the World Youth Day gathering in Krakow next July.

This event, which takes place every three years, will be attended by Pope Francis.  The youth group will be hosted in the Diocese of Plock, near Warsaw, which is the home place of Fr Janusz Lugowski, Polish chaplain in the Diocese of Meath, before they attend the ceremonies with Pope Francis in Krakow.

Some of the participants took part in a preparation day in Mullingar on Sunday 8 May, organised by Fr Kevin Heery and Fr Robert McGivney.  It included a walk in glorious sunshine from the Cathedral to the lake at Ladestown.  The reflection was based on the Gospel of Jesus calling the Apostles along the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

The participants came from the parishes of Ashbourne, Drogheda, Drumraney, Glasson, Kilberry, Laytown, Mullingar, Navan, Rathkenny and Ratoath.
