Cathedral Choristers join choral celebrations in Maynooth

The Choristers from the Cathedral of Christ the King provided music at the Mass for a national gathering of children’s choirs on Saturday 21 November 2015.

The Mass, which was celebrated by Fr Robert McCabe, took place in the College Chapel at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth and involved choirs from all over Ireland.

In his homily, Fr McCabe encouraged the children to use their musical gifts to give praise to God and to become “instruments of mercy”.

The musical director of the Cathedral Choristers is Dervilla Maloney.

The following day, Sunday 22 November, the Choristers sang at Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Smith for the Feast of Christ the King.  The Cathedral in Mullingar was the first Cathedral in the world to be dedicated under the patronage of Christ the King.  The then Bishop of Meath had been encouraged to name the new Cathedral with this title by Pope Pius XI, whose encyclical “Quam primas” instituted the Feast of Christ the King 90 years ago (on 11 December 1925).
