Prayer initiative for Christians in Iraq & Middle East
The following notification was prepared by Fr Robert McCabe -
News reports from Iraq (and many other parts of the Middle East) are either too shocking to watch in online videos or not explicit enough in highlighting the trauma of Christian populations or minority groups in the region.
Many have left their crops, vehicles, schools, clothing, bedding, homes and parishes and have no resources. They do not seem to be featuring at all in the news cycle our mainstream media.
I would be grateful if you can consider the urgency of supporting Christians and other minorities in Iraq who are being assisted in (relatively) safer parishes to which they have fled.
By inviting some parishioners to walk (some or all of the distance) to Mass on a convenient Sunday, I hope to deepen the awareness and connect with the suffering of families, children and senior citizens in Iraq and parts of the Middle East who are suffering greatly at this time and who need prayerful and financial support.
Much of this support is being offered by Catholic Communities in the region.
Below is a notice which can be included in parish newsletters at the weekend. Further information is available at ACNIreland.org.
Walk to Church - in solidarity with persecuted Christians
Parishioners are invited to walk to Mass on a Sunday in the month of September in prayerful solidarity with Christian populations and other minorities who are suffering, being executed or fleeing their homes in Iraq in recent weeks. #PrayForPeace
