Death of Very Reverend Michael Murchan, RIP

A much loved priest of the Diocese of Meath died on 27 June 2013.  Fr Michael Murchan was a native of Moynalty parish in Co Meath.  He was educated at Mullagh school, St Finian’s College and Maynooth where he was ordained in 1952. Having served as a Curate in Seattle, Washington (USA) from 1952 until 1956, he returned to Ireland and ministered in Tullamore (1956-60), Coole, (1960-61) Longwood (1961-64) and Rathkenny (1964) prior to his appointment as Parish Priest of Multyfarnham in February 1981.

He was appointed Parish Priest of Kilmessan in September 1996 until his retirement in August 2001, choosing to remain in Dunsany. In recent years he resided at Knightsbrook Nursing Home, Trim.

Bishop Smith extends his deepest sympathies to Fr Muchan’s sister Mary and brother Paddy, sister-in-law Maureen, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and large circle of friends.
